Will 2014 F1 be really slow after all?

There has been a lot of talk about the latest cars getting close to last years best times.Generally everyone thinks this is a good thing. No one wants slow f1.

But has anyone seen the actual race lap times yet?No one seems to be talking about those! Apparently both mclaren and mercedes were about EIGHT SECONDS slower when running in race mode! That is at bahrain-a high fuel use circuit, but still, other circuits wont be much different.

Surprisingly it's hard to find hard info on this.Does anyone know of actual lap times posted online? My info is from comments by an f1 journalist

I don't know about lap times, but Rosberg said that the 2014 cars are faster on the straights than the last year ones. He thinks that the cars will top 360km/h at Monza, which is very nice.

No one has seen actual race lap times because it's still testing!

Due to a combination of engine characteristics and downforce reduction, we will see higher straightline speeds and let corner speeds. On high downforce circuits without long straights this will mean a shower lap time. A lesser difference will probably be seen on low downforce circuits where the straights will sort of make up for loss in the corners. But in f1 engineers we trust. They will find downforce from somewhere soon enough. But initial races will be slower, atleast to ensure reliability even if they can run faster

I agree with the irritation at the 100kg fuel limit. It just means drivers will be constantly restricted. I love the full-tilt sprint that the drivers occasionally were allowed to do last year, when their tyres weren't wearing away beneath them.

I don't care if the cars themselves are slower, I do care if the drivers can't race them to their full potential for a decent proportion of the race.
